This Christmas, peace on earth will have to wait—there’s a murderer in the drawing room.
When Lady Margot Blackwell reluctantly agrees to host the BBC’s festive broadcast at her ancestral home in Crayford, she expects little more than microphone mishaps, gossiping villagers, and too much brandy in the pudding. Instead, amid the carols and champagne, a popular guest collapses on air and the joyous broadcast turns to horror.
Trapped in Blackwell Manor by a blizzard, Margot finds herself surrounded by suspects: a jealous understudy, a nervous producer, an embittered engineer, and a passionate village vicar whose sermons cut close to home. Everyone had something to gain from the victim’s silence… and something to lose if Margot uncovers the truth.
With the local constabulary out of their depth and Inspector Simon Grant barely tolerant of her “help,” Margot launches her own investigation — armed only with keen observation, dry wit, and her irrepressible lady’s maid Stella Wickham, whose definition of discretion leaves much to be desired.
But as whispered secrets give way to threats, Margot realises the killer hasn’t finished their performance. Someone at Blackwell Manor is desperate to ensure that her own voice—and her heart—are silenced before Christmas morning.
